One of the mountain ranges known for its Afroalpine and sub-afroalpine Ecosystems is the Guna Mountains, home to the red fox.
Mount Guna is located in the South Gondar zone, 30 km southeast of Debre-Tabor city, and the area is mainly bordered on the west and north by Fartana Guna in Gemdir district, on the east and southeast by Lai Gyant district, and on the west and southwest by Este district. It is estimated to be between 3441 and 4113 meters. The surveillance report of the area indicates that the total area of the umbilical zone is 4615 hectares.
Mount Guna is the shelter of many biodiversity and the source of transboundary rivers / 41 rivers and 77 springs / which are tributaries to the basins, as it is the water tower of the Abai and Keze Abi basins, as well as the Tana sub-basin.
If the religious and historical heritage around Mount Guna can be developed and become a tourist destination by linking it with the natural resources in the strict area of the community and the attractive appearance of the place, they can make a significant economic contribution as a source of income for the zone and the local community due to the tourism activity.
The Guna area is crossed by the first-class gravel road that goes from Debre Tabor to Gasai Smada and the road that connects Smada from the wind outlet Sali intersection, so the way to visit Guna will not be a problem; In particular, the gravel road from Debre Tabor to Gasai Smada passes through the highest points of the area, so it can be considered as an opportunity to visit the place.
However, these ecosystems are being severely damaged due to the expansion of agriculture, the establishment of illegal villages, overgrazing and deforestation.
